XRP Jumps 40% as the Rally Spreads Across Altcoins

Hyperliquid, Zcash and Chainlink each gained more than 30% in a week when liquidity expectations improved and legislative momentum returned, in the sharpest broad crypto move of the year.

The rally that lifted bitcoin roughly 22% this week was considerably larger everywhere else in the digital asset market.

XRP rose nearly 40%. Hyperliquid, Zcash and Chainlink each gained more than 30%. Crypto-linked equities — exchanges, miners and treasury companies — led the financial sector's advance on the stock market Friday.

Why the smaller assets move more

Two mechanical reasons and one behavioral one.

Liquidity is thinner. A given dollar of buying moves a smaller order book further, in both directions, which is why these assets fall harder in drawdowns and rise faster in recoveries.

Leverage is heavier. Perpetual futures on major altcoins carry funding rates that reflect crowded positioning, and a market that has been short for months liquidates violently when the price breaks a range.

And the behavioral part: capital in this market rotates outward from bitcoin when risk appetite returns. Traders buy the largest asset first, then move down the capitalization ladder in search of higher beta. That sequence has repeated in every crypto cycle since 2017.

The catalysts

The trigger was macro rather than crypto-specific. The Treasury said it would at least double its buybacks of long-dated debt, easing the bond market pressure that had pushed 30-year yields to their highest since 2007 earlier in the week.

The second catalyst was regulatory. A renewed push from the White House and industry to move the digital asset market structure legislation through the Senate revived expectations that the jurisdictional question — which tokens are securities and which are commodities — might finally be answered by statute rather than by enforcement.

That question matters far more to XRP and to the assets that trade alongside it than it does to bitcoin, whose status has never been seriously disputed.

The caution

Weeks like this one are not evidence of adoption. They are evidence of positioning, and the assets that rise 40% in five days are the same ones that fall 40% when the flows reverse.

The durable version of this story requires the legislation to actually pass — and it has been three weeks from a floor vote for the better part of a year.
